The Bottle of Intrigue

The Christoffel Nobel first captured me with its intriguing bottle that was then followed by a mouthful of flavors. The Grolsch bottles are not commonly used anymore (except for home brewing :)) but I love this old style bottle. The green label also drew me in, giving me the impression that strong hops were incorporated in this brew.

The Christoffel Nobel is a dutch lagerโ€ฆname coming from its origination in the Netherlands. It is a golden-blond strong beer. Part of their brewing process includes dry hopping which is where hops are added during the fermentation period. For those of you who don’t know, hops are normally added prior to fermentation (during boiling) giving the beer some bitterness to counteract the sweet taste from the malts. The process of dry hopping does not give flavor but allows for a larger hop aroma.

This beer had very interesting flavors all around…it was hoppy but balanced by a sweet, almost wine characteristic. For those that enjoy trying unique and different styles I highly recommend trying this beer or something similar. If the liquor store has it, it will most likely be in the single-bottled beer section.

Enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜€
