Aspen

Last weekend I got to enjoy the beautiful Aspen, Colorado for the first time! Aspen is only 4 hours from Denver but I have never been.

I got to see Aspen as well as attend one of the largest doubles volleyball tournaments in America. The MotherLode Volleyball Classic occurs every labor day in Aspen.

There was great competition, lots of sun (and rain, and wind, and clouds…come on, it is Colorado!), amazing views and of course a lot of fun πŸ˜€

My partner and I did not win πŸ™ but had a good time and really got motivated for next year!

I have been playing volleyball for over 10 years but only recently started getting into doubles…it is a totally different game! I really enjoy it though and can’t wait to start training this winter to get ready to compete again next year! πŸ™‚

Labor Day weekend in Aspen also includes the Jazz Festival. This year it featured some great bands like Mumford & Sons, Steve Miller Band, and Sugarland. We could hear the music from our place in Snowmass πŸ™‚

On our way up we stopped in Glenwood Springs at the Glenwood Canyon Brewing Co. It is always fun to find more breweries πŸ™‚

We sampled all of the beers on tap…there were some tasty beers but their Irish Red stuck out to me the most. Typically I find these beers to be kind of bitter or have too much going on with the flavor but this beer was easy drinking πŸ™‚

If you get to Glenwood Springs check out the Yampah Hot Springs Vapor Caves. Literally you walk down a set of stairs and then enter into these natural STEAMY, HOT vapor caves.

The Glenwood Canyon Brewing Co. even has a beer called Vapor Cave IPA πŸ™‚ So you can go relax in the vapor caves then cool off with a beer (after, of course, drinking lots of water!).

Waking up early was my least favorite part πŸ˜€ But Aspen is so beautiful you can’t stay grumpy for long.

I was excited to get some action shots with my new camera! Man, I need to work on my jump serve!

Snowmass, which is right outside of Aspen, is just as beautiful. We stayed in an old 80’s decor condo…they have lots of space/beds and a kitchen so if you have some people to commit it can be a good deal.

On the way back we took Independence Pass…a beautiful drive and at times scary!

For those that don’t know, South Park, Colorado truly does exist πŸ™‚ I have driven through it many times (it isn’t much!) but never snapped a photo.

    • Thanks for stopping by! Aspen is pretty sweet…a totally different world though. The houses are outrageously expensive and it seems everyone has a private jet πŸ™‚

  2. Wow! So beautiful! The grey clouds coming in don’t even look real!

    • haha ya we were getting all kinds of weather while we were there…basically every 10 minutes you were either taking off layers or putting them back on.

  3. Hi Lilly, so lovely that you found me so that I could find you! I love your beer obsession, and look forward to learning more about you and your food world too.
