Crafty Ladies

“Bringing women in the community together one craft beer at a time” is what Crafty Ladies Beer Club is all about.

The Crafty Ladies meet one or two times a month at Highland Tap & Burger (HTB) in LoHi Denver neighborhood. Katie O’Shea, co-owner of HTB and founder of Crafty Ladies, brings craft beer and fun events to women in the Denver area. Professionals in the beer industry come to HTB to share their expertise and beer with us!

This last Tuesday I got to experience Crafty Ladies for the first time πŸ™‚ Ian Jacobs, Rocky Mountains Manager, from Lagunitas Brewing (Petaluma, CA) shared the history of Lagunitas and five of their tasty beers!

The first tasting was of the Lagunitas IPA with the recommended pairing of Maytag Blue Cheese. Don’t let the IPA title scare you though, this IPA is what I would consider a much lighter IPA. It is packed full of hops but balanced very well. This is an IPA that is refreshing and easy to drink.

The Little Sumpin’ Sumpin Ale was the next beer from Lagunitas. This beer started off as their summer seasonal but beer lovers liked it so much they demanded it be available year round. It is a “wheat” style IPA. Yes, wheat and IPA are not typically together but this beer is made with lots of wheat and then packed full of hops.

The Little Sumpin’ Wild has the same base as the Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ but it uses a different yeast. It is made with the Westhmalle Trappist yeast that gives it completely different flavors. It gets citrus from the hops and bubble gum flavor from the wheat. (See full review here)

Lagunitas Sucks was “cleverly” named by founder and master brewer, Tony Magee. The Lagunitas Sucks was paired with goat cheese by Jumpin’ Good Goat (Buena Vista, CO)

Jacobs also said his favorite pairing with super hoppy beers is carrot cake πŸ™‚ The mini carrot cake cupcakes were from Happy Cakes.

Brown Shugga’ was the last beer tried but since I had to leave early I didn’t get to hear about it but I wrote a review about it last week. Check it out here.
