Many of you “know” me well enough by now that you can figure that even though I was away hiking for a while I was still tasting local beers π Elevation Beer Company is a mountain brewery in Poncha Springs which is only about a 30 minute drive from Buena Vista and 10 minutes from Salida.
It seems kind of secluded in the small town of Poncha Springs (not sure what else is even in that town!) but it was definitely worth the drive and there was a steady stream of people both times I was there.
The first time I got the pleasure of tasting their beer was at the South Denver Beer Festival. Immediately, I loved the Kolsch! More and more American breweries are playing with brewing this German-style beer and I am always eager to try it. Technically it can’t be a Kolsch unless we are sipping it in Cologne, Germany but this one felt pretty close π
The 8 Second Kolsch went down so easily after a long day of hiking…it was crisp and refreshing. Some of my other favorite beers are the Third Base Tripel, Brown Canyon India Brown Ale, and their 1st Anniversary beer- the 7437 Double IPA.
Elevation was started by four friends that had the dream of opening a brewery and in a place that would allow them to lead an active life of fishing, hiking 14000-foot peaks, and shredding snow in the great Rocky Mountains. They had their 1 year anniversary in May and are already bottling and distributing across Colorado.
Elevation Beer Co. is a great excuse to get to the mountains this summer! Or if the trip is a little far, make sure to look for it in stores near you.
For the local Coloradans, there is a lot going on this week/weekend:
Porch Pounder Hibiscus Witbier at Vine Street Pub on Wednesday and Mountain Sun/Southern Sun on Thursday
The Kettle & Stone Brewing Co. Opening Wednesday
Renegade 2nd Anniversary Block Party on Saturday
PorchDrinking.com’s 1 Year Anniversary Party on Saturday

Thank you! π They have some pretty fabulous beers.
For those of us not living in Colorado, Elevation will remain just above our reach. Their products do sound good, though.
ha ha, I like your little play on words π For how fast they have spread across Colorado, they might have plans to venture out of the state very soon π
What a nice beer company you have there. And i love this song by Portishead. π
Me too! They were playing it while I was at the brewery π
Mr. Craves and I are going to have to put the Great American Beer Festival on our travel list and add a few days to explore CO too.
Yes, you should!! There are so many fun things to see in CO π
