An Adventure in Palisade

Last weekend we went to Palisade, CO to tour the wineries, breweries and Peach Street Distillers in celebration of a friend’s birthday. It was a boozing adventure, to say the least! πŸ™‚

We visited multiple wineries: Colterris, Variason Vineyards, Carlson Vineyards, and Canyon Wind. I will not even begin to review the wines because even though I like wine, I do not know it well. I enjoy wine- mainly reds- but I do not know about the different tasting notes, grapes and processes.

All the wineries had different atmospheres. Varaison Vineyards is located in a cozy old house in town. Colterris has a nice patio for tasting wine while looking out at the vineyards. Canyon Wind had a small tasting room in a beautiful location surrounded by it’s vineyards. Carlson Vineyards was our last stop and though it was close to closing hour, they still went through all their wines with enthusiasm and we got to tour the facility from Parker Carlson himself.

At Carlson Vineyards there was a Peach wine that was served as a Hot Peach Cobbler in a Mug. Let me just say- I was sold! It was warmed wine with maple syrup and cinnamon. I thought this would be perfect for sipping on one of these cool nights to come.

We visited Kannah Creek Brewing and Palisade Brewing Company. Palisade Brewing is located in town. We stopped there for lunch and enjoyed some down time as we ate, drank, and played corn hole. Kannah Creek Brewing in Grand Junction was our last stop for the day. We planned it so the breweries were are eating locations so we had dinner at Kannah Creek. They had really good food. I only tried one beer so I cannot say a whole lot about them but I definitely want to go back sometime and try them again.

Though typically I would review breweries, I want to review Peach Street Distillers. This was an impressive distillery! I only wish it was a little closer to Denver!

They are in a great location in town (next to Palisade Brewing) with an awesome patio. The service was fabulous- all the bartenders did a phenomenal job and made it a great experience. We started off by getting tastes of everything they make. They had a delicious pear gin and the regular gin was great.

We also tried the trilogy of tequila distilled from blue agave: Silver, Gold and Extra. It was fun tasting each of them. The Extra was more of a syrup consistency and was very easy to sip. The bartender suggested using this in lieu of Cointreau in a margarita.

Not much of a booze sipper? They make fabulous cocktails! All the cocktails on the menu were fun and unique but they also will be creative and make you whatever you like. The bloody Mary’s were great and make sure to ask for a blue cheese stuffed olive that is soaked in Frank’s Red Hot. Yes, you heard me right! πŸ™‚

We had a great time in Palisade and I definitely want to go back in the spring/summer!

  1. very cool post–have total booze envy πŸ˜‰

  2. Looks like a great place with lots of good drinks!

  3. I am such a huge fan of SBTRKT. Have you listened to any of the tracks featuring Sampha? The whole recent album is on repeat on my iPod πŸ™‚ LOVE the sound of that hot peach cobbler in a glass. Mmm, perfect for colder weather. I’ve never tried any wines from your part of the world… mostly just American beers. I need to change that!

    • SBTRKT are awesome! I will have to look at their tracks featuring Sampha- I am not sure if I have heard them. Thanks for the recommendation!
