The Tamayo Terrace is Heating Up!

Tamayo’s terrace is heating up and it is just in time for summer! Tamayo has new late night specials on Friday and Saturday nights. Those looking for a chill but lively late night outing with happy hour food and drinks should check out Tamayo After Hours.

A couple weeks back, we got the pleasure of checking out Impulse Fridays where a DJ spins Top 40 hits from 10 pm to close. There were $4 bites, $3 tacos, $7 beer and tequila shot pairings, and $5 margaritas.

We started out with a couple margaritas and chips and salsa while we viewed the menu. The menu was the same as their daily happy hour menu (Mon-Fri 2-7, Sat 2-5). Since Tamayo is so conveniently located near campus, my boyfriend and I ran over there many times between classes for some happy hour! So needless to say, we are a fan πŸ™‚

I believe we started with the Tamayo margarita and the blood orange margarita– both were very delicious! I was afraid of the fruity margaritas being too sweet but this one was perfect. The chips and salsa were a mix of salsa roja and salsa verde. I really liked the combination. It was not hot at all but flavorful. I am a big fan of a good salsa verde!

Next we tried the squash blossom quesadilla. It comes out looking like an empanada, covered with three different salsas and cheese. It was good but not super flavorful so I would not say it was a favorite. Though we did not have it this time, we have tried the perro caliente before. This bacon wrapped hot dog with pickled chile and chipotle roullie is AMAZING! This is definitely a favorite happy hour item!

After a little bit of food we felt a beer and tequila shot were in order πŸ™‚ They do not have a craft beer selection by any means but sometimes Mexican beers are the perfect combination. Dos equis amber, Dos equis lager, and coors light are the happy hour menu choices. I went with the dos equis amber for a little bit more flavor than your typical light Mexican beers.

The last bites we tried were the tacos. We started out with one of each: taco de carne, el pastor, and chicken tinga. Much to my surprise, the chicken tinga was by far the most flavorful and best tasting. It was so good that we ended up ordering two more so we did not have to share πŸ™‚

Tamayo has a really great upstairs patio (hence, the terrace). It is fairly large with a bar and lots of tables to sit at. When we went, Colorado was experiencing one of those rainy, chilly spring evenings so we did not get to soak up the typical summer night weather. However, they have covers that keep it fairly warm in there so that any night is a good night to hangout on the terrace!

We went on a Friday night but Saturday nights are Latin & Ladies Night where ladies drink select cocktails free from 10:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m while enjoying latin beats. They also wanted to have Throwback Thursdays but as of now, I believe it is still in the process due to getting necessary permits for late night music.

It just so happens that today is Friday so lucky for you, Tamayo After Hours starts tonight!! πŸ˜‰

  1. I used to go to their happy hour frequently when I first moved here. Thanks for the reminder of all the tasty food and drinks. I’ll have to check out their patio on my next visit!

  2. Nothing Better than Hanging Out with your Greatest Someones and having Good Eats and Drinks πŸ™‚ Happy Weekend – Cheers!!!

  3. I want to go to this place every night. πŸ™ There are no good restaurants in my town, until they open something besides a Chili’s or Applebee’s, I will just have to keep stalking your blog and being sad.

  4. Squash blossoms in a quesadilla sounds divine, what a great find!
