Tasty Tacos

El Camino is a Mexican restaurant located in the lower Highlands near 32nd and Lowell. The atmosphere is very classy but funky at the same time. There is unique art up on the wall along with exclusive beer can chandeliers…

El Camino uses very fresh ingredients and buys locally as much as possible. They are known for their shrimp tacos which are phenomenal…made fresh with avocado, cilantro and lime. They use Manchego cheese which is a Spanish cheese that is made from sheep’s milk. The name refers to the type of sheep that are raised in the “La Mancha” region. All the ingredients in the shrimp tacos were terrific but I think the Manchego cheese is what complimented everything, bringing the flavors together. Manchego is not a strong cheese which is why I think it is perfect on shrimp tacos.

The service was great…the place wasn’t too busy when we arrived at 6:30. Happy hour was just ending but the server offered us the happy hour menu which to me is exceptional service…

Happy hour is daily from 3:00-6:30 with margaritas, beer and a few different snacks like the Queso and chips. The Queso comes out with a side of meat, jalapeños and cilantro. I enjoyed that aspect because you were able to dress up your Queso however you desired…I dumped all of it in and then added some of their table sauce to each individual bite.

The Queso was plenty for two and tasted delicious with the margaritas…I tried the el camino and el brazo margaritas. The el camino is most like a regular house margarita…has lots of lime giving it a tart flavor where as the el brazo was sweeter. I don’t like too sweet of drinks so I enjoyed the el camino but it really depends on your personal preference.

I was not in on a Tuesday but they have $1 street tacos all day long every Tuesday. I will definitely be back to try those!
