This past weekend was the 11th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Fest. This event showcases special beer creations that must be 8% ABV or higher. It may have been the name that significantly increased the popularity, but Bacon & Eggs by Pizza Port Brewing (California) was the beer to try. The name describes exactly the type of food to enjoy it with: breakfast. It smelt of pure coffee beans and tasted like coffee. The Bacon & Eggs Porter would be great with breakfast for dinner or at weekend brunch 🙂
Just the other day, I saw delicious chocolate Bacon & Eggs pretzel snacks over at Lick the Bowl Good. Someone cleverly thought they would fit in at the beer festival this weekend so I got to try them!

Well, now you’re thinking I don’t know how to pick favorites! Lol, but this just shows how many amazing beers were present!
A lot of people have been going crazy in Colorado trying to get a taste of Pliny the Younger by Russian River. It was a very tasty, sweet IPA. There isn’t really another IPA that I have tried that compares. Pliny the Younger would be easy to sip in the warm summer weather.
Another popular beer with the most beautiful color was the Redstone Meadery Black Raspberry Nectar. It was described as a light crisp mead with black raspberries. It was not a favorite of mine because it made me think of cherry cough syrup but many people enjoyed this one. It also tasted rather delicious mixed with the Oskar Blues Whiskey Barrel Aged Ten Fiddy.
Though I could probably go on and on about all the beers, the only other one I want to mention specifically is the Whiskey Barrel Chilly Water by Trinity Brewing. It was like sweet chilly water that was delicious and SO easy to drink…it was like drinking water.

The beers sound fantastic, I want to try all of them. The bacon and egg porter sounds great. Beer is so complex and it’s no longer just your Bud or Miller. Must say I really enjoyed the music, Paul Simon is hands down my favorite artist, genius!! Saw him a couple of years ago, BAM in Brooklyn did a month long Paul Simon retrospective with 3 different concerts from his beginnings with Art Garfunkel to present. I went to all 3 shows and it was amazing.

Can’t wait to read your review of a GF beer. I make mustard using Guinness but need a GF alternative for a family member. Depending upon the beer, this could be the answer. Yay!
Yes, hopefully I can get that posted later this week or next week 🙂 It is not a dark beer though so it wouldn’t really replace Guinness but it would give you a different flavor. So far I have only ever seen ciders or lighter beers as gluten-free. The dark flavors and color come from all the malts so it might be a little while before this can be created but I bet it will happen! Thanks John!
