Sitges

After about a week in Barcelona I was ready to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and to the relaxing Sitges! Just down the coast from Barcelona is the nice and calm Sitges.

There is a boardwalk that goes along the coast into town and to the church. After many relaxing hours on the beach I walked along it. There was a nice breeze making it perfect weather.

There were many vendors set up along the boardwalk once you got closer to town. There were lots of different things to look at from clothing and accessories to many yummy cheeses and meats. I am not sure if it is everyday but it was very nice. You could actually look without getting hassled to buy stuff! πŸ™‚

When I set eyes on this small booth with heaps of churros– original, dipped in chocolate, filled with cream- I had to get one! I went with the churro con crema and it was so amazing! πŸ˜€

I continued along the boardwalk to the church: Eglesia de Sant BartolomΓ© i Santa Tecla. When I first saw this church on the internet I was surprised at it being such a tourist attraction. I mean there are so many churches and of course people always visit them in cities but people were talking about how beautiful and amazing it was.

Once I was standing in front of it, I understood πŸ™‚ There was something amazing about its simplicity. Also, it is set right next to the water so there were waves crashing against the rocks down below which was very calming and beautiful.

It may have also just been something I needed. I was having a great time in Barcelona but it was a lot of activities, partying, and not a lot of time to relax and be with myself πŸ™‚

Sitges is a very cute small town that brings a lot of people in on vacation because of the beaches and the fact that is a well kept town. There are also many gay and lesbian travelers here because apparently it is very gay friendly.

The town is small but with lots of options for food. You can enjoy food by the seaside or walk down up one of their many cute side streets to find tapas and pinxtos!

I did not eat out while I was there so I cannot recommend any places. However, I found this place called El Donostiarra that had good reviews for decently priced tapas. I think even just getting some cheese, wine, bread, and treats from the vendors and then walking down to the beach would be lovely!

Worth mentioning:

I stayed at the Utopia Beach House. I think it was the only hostel or at least the cheapest I found in Sitges. It is only a 3 minute walk to the beach and maybe 15 minutes into town. It was not the best for meeting people but it was a good hostel with a nice bar and outdoor area.
