The Big Eat: A Recap

Last Thursday was the BIG EAT. Plenty of restaurants joined for this fun event full of food, drinks, and awesome entertainment! It was my first time attending and I very much enjoyed the event that was set at the Denver Performing Arts Center.

Eats

Right away all the dessert tables were jumping out at me! But I tried to resist until having some one dinner bite πŸ™‚ The first bite was from Bubu (pictured below), which I believe originally opened in Lowry and there is now one in Larimer square. It was a very refreshing and tasty bite.

There were a few pastas that I really enjoyed. DiFRANCO’S brought a penne pasta with prosciutto vodka sauce and pecorino cheese. It was simple but tasty. Salt and Grind had a pesto-type pasta that was also delicious!

A few months ago when we attended BruFrou, there was a place called Panzano that brought a phenomenal lamb ragu with a truffle cheese. I was so glad to taste it again! This combination is so rich and incredible! I really need to visit Panzano’s!

Ace brought a really yummy Thai Tea Cheesecake. It had a jello-y top layer, a light cheesecake body, set on a graham cracker crust accompanied by a toasted sesame cracker- Yum! πŸ˜€

The other desserts I had were from Happy Cakes (drooling picture at the end)…and maybe I had them early on?! πŸ˜€ I did not want to miss out! The Mexican chocolate cupcake…outstanding. I also have to give a thumbs up to the cherry cupcake!

Booze

We were greeted with a refreshing Gin and Kombucha cocktail at the entrance. It was a nice starter especially with how hot the day had been.

Jake’s Julep from Laws Whisky House came next. T’was a tad sweet and more mint was desired. The bourbon was noteworthy. I will make the distillery a destination.

Tivoli is back! Many might not know of this brewery but it was one of the early breweries when Denver first formed. Prior to prohibition, it was one of the largest breweries west of the Mississippi. Surviving prohibition, it operated until the late 1960s. In 2012 it was reborn and very soon they will be brewing and bottling all on their own. This is awesome because of the history but also the old brew house is still on the college campus in downtown Denver where I went to school. To read more about Tivoli, visit here.

The other breweries in attendance were Oskar Blues, Crazy Mountain, and Great Divide. Great Divide brought two new beers which was awesome. The Whitewater Hoppy Wheat Ale was packed with flavor. I also enjoyed their 21st anniversary beer.

Oops…I guess coffee is not quite booze but still gives you a boost?! πŸ™‚ Novo coffee is a favorite and at the Big Eat they had their cold brewed coffee on a nitro tap- it was so freaking amazing!

Entertainment

This event had great entertainment. The breakdancing group was very talented and kept the party alive! It was a blast watching them and a great way to take a pause from eating πŸ˜‰ Though I did not spend much time inside, there was also a band playing so you could have entertainment everywhere you went.

Who doesn’t love a photo booth (minus the booth)!? That was a great idea!

The Big Eat was a really fun event! I am so glad I got to go. It was a nice switch from all the beer festivals with food being more of the focus πŸ™‚ I got full pretty quickly and only wish I could have had room to try more! Thanks EatDenver and Imbibe for putting on this great event!
