The Denver Central Market

The Denver Central Market opened just a couple months ago in Denver’s River North (RiNo) neighborhood. It’s a central place for gathering to get a bite to eat and drink with a friend or a baked good and coffee on the way to work. There are also meat and fish markets and a produce stand. The Denver Central Market has a little bit of everything…

The Colorado Tourism Office invited me for a Media Reception to taste, drink, and mingle. Vendors were providing samples to give an insight on their offerings. Silva’s Fish Market is one of the vendors and they were serving a Salmon Coconut Ceviche with plantain chips and Tuna Sashimi. The ceviche had salmon, red onion, aji amarillo, coconut, and leche de tigre (citrus-based marinade). I thought both samplings were tasty! I enjoyed them with a glass of white wine from the Curio bar.

Some of the other food options are the Vero Italian, Culture meat and cheese, and SK Provisions. SK Provisions has a selection of slow roasted meats. Then for satisfying that sweet tooth there were multiple choices. High Point Creamery made a second location in the Denver Central Market. Temper had fine looking chocolates and the Izzio bakery had pastries, bread, and desserts.

Bakeries seem to be hard to come by in Denver and a good one at that. I did not a get chance to taste any of Izzio’s baked goods on my visit but they had plenty of options and the options looked good πŸ™‚ I work on the other side of town so I will have to go back on a Saturday morning for a pastry and a coffee.

The High Point Creamery might be my number one reason for going back to the Denver Central Market again and again. They opened their first shop in southeast Denver and though it has been on my list to visit I just don’t find myself in that part of town often. A big selling point is they do tasters of ice cream for those like myself that struggle with food choices and like to try a little of everything πŸ˜€

The five flavors I decided on were the Basil with Blackberry, Mint with Chocolate Bark, Earl Grey with Shortbread Cookies, Coconut Creme Brulee, and Tin Cup Whiskey w/ Pistachio Brittle. They were all excellent. The Basil with Blackberry was my favorite. It sounds odd but the combination of these flavors was amazing! I also really enjoyed the Earl Grey with Shortbread Cookies. It tasted just like earl grey but without any bitterness and then the little bites of shortbread were so delicious. Also, though I do not eat mint ice cream very often, their’s was incredible. It tasted just like fresh mint and was very refreshing.

After having to eat all that ice cream by myself I could not find room for anymore sweets. However, I took a few samplings of the Temper chocolate home with me. I tried the Bees Knees (lavender), Pinot Noir one, and Salt N Peppa. The Salt N Peppa was the best! It had gooey caramel on the inside and both salt and pepper. As the holidays approach, keep these in mind for gifts!

The Denver Central Market is definitely a place to check out. There is mainly sitting room near the bar. It is not the largest setting so I would be curious to know how packed it gets. The bar had a nice list of fun cocktails. They did not have that large of a beer list but they have a few from Great Divide and Left Hand Brewing.

Cheers!
