The Perfect Mouth Tingle

Peanut curry, pad Thai, panang curry and pretty much anything with a peanut sauce is a favorite of my man. At every Thai restaurant he gets so excited to order and he doesn’t typically stray from tradition. My man eats well and definitely loves all the food I make, but with peanut sauce there will not be a drop left. If we weren’t in public I am sure he would lick the bowl clean :D

I love making coconut curry but I had never made a peanut sauce. I knew my man would be so happy if I took a stab at one. Since it was my first time, I searched multiple recipes and kept taking down notes of things to include. I probably looked at at least 10 recipes with the first one being Shira’s Peanut Sauce Noodle Bowl. I took ideas from all the recipes and then decided on what I wanted in my peanut sauce.

Typically, I wouldn’t post a recipe that I made for the first time but it turned out great! The peanut sauce enthusiast approved and said it had the perfect amount of heat :) The mouth was left with a nice tingle and pleasant feeling.

Spicy Peanut Sauce
~Adapted from many recipes :)
Serving size: 4

1/2 c peanut butter
1/4 c honey
1 T soy sauce
1 T sesame oil
1 lime
1 c lite coconut milk
1/2 t red chili pepper flakes
1/2 t cayenne

Veggies and Noodles
2 garlic cloves
1 T fresh ginger
1 red bell pepper
2 broccoli heads
3 celery stalks
brown rice noodles (4 servings)
fresh cilantro

Put all the ingredients for the peanut sauce in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.

Depending on amount of broccoli, fill a pot with water about an inch deep. Cook the broccoli until tender.

In a large skillet, simmer garlic and ginger with olive oil. Add the sliced bell pepper.

Start boiling water for rice noodles or other substitute. Cook according to instructions on package.

Once the broccoli is done, drain and set aside. When the red pepper has reached desired tenderness, add the chopped celery. I like the crunch of the celery so I just let it heat up a minute or two. Add the broccoli and peanut sauce and mix together.

Serve over noodles. Top with fresh cilantro. Pair with an IPA. Enjoy! :D

  2. What an awesome name for a post. This perfectly describes how I feel when I take a bit of something delicious.

And I love that you included some “music” at the end in the form of Pitch Perfect!!

  3. This sounds soooo yummy, and I love hearing about how you came to a final decision. I think I’m going to have to make this for my honey, too! (When we go out for Thai food, he doesn’t look at the menu; he just orders pad thai with extra peanut sauce!)

  4. Now this sounds like a great peanut sauce! There are so many noodle salad recipes that it would go so well with. Thanks for sharing this!

  5. Received this reply from the US distributor this morning:

Some good retailers to try would be Mile High Wine and Spirits, Davidsons, Argonaut, Colorado Liquor Mart, and Lukas Liquors. These are some of Shelton Brothers’ best customers in the Denver area, though your reader would have to contact them directly to ask exactly what they have in stock now. Most of these retailers will be willing to special order any of the NZ beers that they don’t have on the shelf that we have in stock in our Massachusetts warehouse (our wholesaler in CO only sells out beer via special order).

Let me know if they have any trouble. I can tell you we’re out of Larger, but do have Hop Zombie, Message in a Bottle, First Batch, Double Stout, and most of the Epic year rounds available. We also just received a very fresh batch of Tuatara Pils, IPA and Aotearoa Pale yesterday.

I would recommend Hop Zombie if you like Hoppiness, Message in a Bottle is a favourite, as is Tuatara Pils and Aotearoa Pale Ale.

    • WOW, THANK YOU!! Definitely going to try Hop Zombie because of the name! Also I love hops :) And definitely will try Tuatara since you posted about it. Thanks so much! This was very nice of you!

  6. Oh man I’m right there with your boyfriend–I LOVE peanut sauce so much!! This bowl sounds excellent, and thanks for introducing me to the In Pursuit of More blog–looks like a great read and I’m excited to check out more of her site! Also, excellent linkage at the end :)

    • Shira at Pursuit of More not only has amazing and healthy recipes but she is an amazing woman! Definitely explore her site. Thanks Erika!

  7. I heart peanut sauce! Way to go – recipe looks great. Might have to try it for my dad; he loves peanut sauce as well, and the red chili flakes would be a brilliant addition. :)
