Wild Woods is a nanobrewery in Boulder, Colorado that started about 6 months ago. Their brews are inspired by the great outdoors and what’s better than opening where the mountains are at your doorstep and beautiful trails are only a hike away :)

A long bar, tables, and a beetle-kill pine bar top make it cozy. Jake and Erin, owners of Wild Woods Brewery, provide you with their passion of the outdoors and beer which comes through in every sip. The Wildflower Pale Ale, Berry Patch Wheat, Treeline IPA, Campfire Red, Ponderosa Porter, and S’mores Stout are their main inspired ales. Each beer is brewed with the intentions of reminding you of the outdoors or some are even brewed with pieces of nature.

Here is a beer sampler of some of their brews:

Berry Patch Wheat is a wheat beer that is blended with lots of wild berry purees. This beer was very fruity yet not too sweet. As I sipped on it I kept thinking how good it would be paired with cheese. Since I tasted a prominent strawberry flavor, I felt like a feta cheese or strong cheddar would be the right bite with it.

The Treeline IPA is an American style India Pale Ale that is brewed with juniper berries. It was an easy-drinking IPA and definitely one I would drink again and again :) I drank it with my carrot cake.

The Campfire Red was brewed to remind you of the smells and comfort of a campfire. Many smoky beers are heavy stouts but this one is a red ale that has been delicately brewed with smoked malt. It was not overpowering but balanced with other malts.

The Ponderosa Porter is “A roasty, oak-aged porter with whole vanilla beans, inspired by the cake-like aromas found when hiking through a forest of ponderosa pine trees.” I cannot give a better description than Wild Woods on their Ponderosa Porter.

One of their special release beers was the Tropical Paradise Imperial IPA. This beer was aggressively hopped yet brewed with fresh mango and ginger to give it a little sweet balance. It was very tasty but watch your consumption, it was 10% ABV!

Visit their taproom in Boulder or come taste their beer at the South Denver Beer Fest next weekend in Littleton. I will be pouring for them!

  2. I am so sad I already have a weekend in Breckenridge planned otherwise I would be taking my husband to this Beer fest, I am sure he would love trying these! We will have to make it out to their nano brewery! Great descriptions!

  3. Treeline IPA with juniper berries!! Not only have juniper berries been on my mind lately; I also love the fact that you drank it with carrot cake! Sounds like perfection. Cheers!

    • The S’mores stout was delicious as well…it had a creamy chocolate taste…could have had more of a roasted flavor and graham cracker to make it taste like the ultimate s’more :)
