Candied Bacon with Java Stout Beer

The Bacon and Beer Festival got me thinking about bacon, of course, and inspired me to finally make Beer Candied Bacon. This idea is not new but it was my first time trying it and now it is going to become a more common occurrence. It was both delicious and easy to do! For all the football parties and holiday activities to come, impress you guests with this candied beer bacon!

The Java Stout by Santa Fe Brewing (Santa Fe, NM) seemed like the perfect beer to use due to its strong coffee flavor reminding you of breakfast. The Java Stout is a delicious coffee stout!

Beer Candied Bacon

~Provided by Tide and Thyme

1 lb thick cut bacon
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c + 2 T stout

This recipe can also be made with a gluten-free beer if desired. I tried it with the Dubbel Dark Ale by Green’s Brewery and the bacon still turned out delicious!

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 F.
  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil. Place a cooling rack on top and place the bacon strips on it (they can overlap).
  • Place in the oven and cook for 10 minutes.
  • In the meantime, mix the beer and brown sugar together. Note: you may need to mix again prior to brushing the bacon each time.
  • After the 10 minutes, pull the bacon out and brush with the beer syrup. Flip the bacon and brush the other side. Cook for another 10 minutes. Repeat this process until bacon is nice and browned. All the syrup should be used up as well.
